Hopefully by now you have heard about the Creative Industries bi-annual postgraduate conference Ignite10! Thank you to the students who have submitted abstracts – the program is looking really exciting. For students that have yet to submit anything for Ignite10!, we invite you to create a poster for display during the conference.

The poster can discuss any facet of your research and include text, illustrations, photographs, etc. Please find a template attached to get you started, however, please don’t feel restricted – we will accept any poster within an A3 size.

In order to make sure the posters are printed in time for display, we require all submissions to be sent through to ignite10ci@gmail.com by October 8^th. The Great Debate: You’re not the Boss of Me! - The hierarchies of postgraduate supervision

The Great Debate pitches two teams of experienced academics to debate the pros and cons of postgraduate supervision. You’re not the Boss of Me! asks supervisors and students to unpack the nitty-gritty behind one of the key professional relationships in an academic’s career, and focuses upon the challenges, rewards, and difficulties that crop up along the road to graduation and commencement. Just who is it that holds the upper hand in postgraduate supervision?

There’s Madness in My Method – Creative writers talk about their practice and their influences

There’s Madness in My Method is an informal panel that invites postgraduate creative writing researchers to discuss their practice, their output, and the theories behind their research and methodology. Seven creative writers will speak about such diverse topics as travel and life writing, speculative fiction, football and chick-lit, myth and sustainability. If you’ve ever felt the need to know where authors get their ideas from and how they put them into practice, this panel is bound to offer some answers.

This won’t Hurt a Bit - What’s really going on inside your examiner’s head as they’re reading your thesis

Most postgraduate researchers must wonder what’s happening in an examiner’s mind as they turn through the pages of their thesis. This won’t Hurt a Bit brings four experienced examiners together to discuss the various elements they look for when they mark the work you’ve slaved over for years. Come along to find out about the little joys that they look forward to encountering, and what exactly makes for a cringeworthy moment in the examination process. If you’re hoping to have a smooth examination, This won’t Hurt a Bit is a panel you can’t afford to miss.

IGNITE10! is a free bi-annual, multi-disciplinary conference to spark postgraduate research culture, run by the Creative Industries Faculty. This three-day conference features presentations, workshops, debates and exhibitions of creative works by postgraduate research students from Creative Industries.

Everyone is welcome to attend IGNITE10! including undergraduates and academics from any faculty. So if you want to  learn new skills, engage in critical discussions with other CI researchers and forge new industry and academic contacts – we will be seeing you at IGNITE10!
